Judith Pies

Judith Pies is currently the web editor of the German EJO website. She studied communication, politics and Semitic cultures at the German Universities of Mainz and Frankfurt and Arabic at the Lebanese Université St. Joseph. She received her PhD from the Institute of Media and Communication Studies at Erfurt University with a dissertation on the change of journalistic rules in Jordan. Between 2000 and 2001 she worked as a research assistant at the German Orient Institute in Beirut (OIB), Lebanon and later at the Orient-Occident Center of Excellence (KOOM) in Mainz, Germany. Before starting to work in Dortmund, she wrote brochures and guidebooks for the tourism marketing bureau TMS in Flörsheim. Since 2008, she teaches and researches at the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism and the Institute for Journalism at TU Dortmund University. Her research focuses on media accountability, Arab media systems, media development assistance and comparative media studies. Judith Pies has organized various exchange, training and research programs for international journalists.
